1. Södermalm looks for greener grass

    By Blue Baller

Last weekend in April was also, in a deeper psychological sense, the first weekend of early summer for the blues. Invited by the Dockers together with the Årsta Swans to Norrtälje, the three teams concluded the pre-season with a mixed-team friendly. The Dockers impressed, as always, with exellent grounds and facilities, but more importantly, the conditions were perfect for a light game of footy. Given the season premiere is already next weekend, it came as no surprise that the three teams were holding back, avoiding injuries and not revealing their true colors unnecessarily. Dockers coach Ryan Tucker, however, declared that he was optimistic about playing already after the summer break, despite still jumping on crouches after breaking his ankle while skiing during winter. Only Söder’s president cannon- ball-Kaj, who allegedly rejected taking a ride out to Norrtälje and instead took the 100km to the coast-near city as a triathlon practice run,  went full on out on the pitch, resulting in a single-accident smashed nose.

Next week is the season premiere for the SAFF league. Stay tuned for updates!

  2. Södermalm win again

    By Blue Baller

Sunday arvo footy saw Söder take on a depleted Årsta at the J. It also saw the return of last years league Swedish b&f Mick, the new and improved medium Dave and first gamer Martin.Martin kept tradition alive by kicking a goal in his first game and ended it with 4 as did medium Dave who looked unstoppable, nearly taking a mark from his own kick. Miguel got thrown into the forward line to snag a couple as well.

Special mention to the guys who helped out Årsta and gave us a good game, O train dominated as usual and Rob, Carson and Bull had plenty of it as did the one quarter specialist Murf.

    Final Result: Södermalm 14.10 94  vs. Årsta 6.4 40

  4. Söder start the season with a win

    By Blue Baller

The ANZAC day double header was nothing short of a success, great football, fantastic weather, and a short ANZAC Day remebrance ceremony by Rion Farmer and Ben Kirk.

Now to football – Årsta, short of players already at the start of the game had an uphill race all day long. Södermalm had a full bench and was all fueled up. Despite a great effort by Årsta veterans Thor, Rob, Mats, and an inspireing performance by rookie Årsta-Max, the tide never turned. The Larsson brothers was non-negotiable in their attacks, Brissles and Brad were bombing the Årsta goal, Iron Guts was the anvil that shattered the Hammer, Tanka was running circles around his defenders, Kaj showed what Finnish sisu looks like and Jamie and Oscar dominated the… well, you get it.  To round it up, the final standing was Södermalm 22.18 Årsta 7.6 (150-48)

In the second game, Bromma 10.18 proved that every behind counts when they defeated Solna 10.11 (78-71). Great effort by umpire Ryan Kingsley and thanks to all who showed up to support your team. Also thanks to Jordo for the pics.

    By Blue Baller

Tomorrow, Sat 21st, Södermalm takes on Norrtälje Dockers and Karlstad Eagles in a pair of pre season friendlies. The wheater forcast looks a bit more promising than when Solna invited North London Lions last week-end.  Södermalm – Dockers 12.30, Södermalm – Eagles 14.00. Come along and enjoy the first footy of the season!

The game starts 18.00 @ Årstafältet. Come and support your team!

  7. Söder undefeated as the table turns

    By Blue Baller

In a game as tight and wet as the snuggling at Timbi’s going away party later that night, Södermalm team spirit and hard work can make up for missing key players. The 4 Swedes, minimum number allowed onfield, had to workhard thoughout the game, and Luke and Shakesperare, playing their first Södermalm game ever, gave two subs altogether.

Nevertheless, running, talking, handballing, kicking, sheparding, from everyone  througout the game from all players – as a team should work – allowed Södermalm to end up on top. The final score was 95-66.

  8. Early final?

    By Blue Baller

After the short visit and inspiring  training session by Brett Kirk last week it is time to see if any of the teams caught on to what he had to say. Both Södermalm and Bromma are undefeated and will want to make a statement by securing the top spot in the ladder before the coming summer break.

Get in there and support your team. This Friday 18.30 @ Årsta

  9. Söder off to a good start [Pictures]

    By Lars

Suspense was in the air. It was the first game of the season for Södermalm against reigning champions Solna Axemen. The Blues had lost a few key players from last year and no one knew if the new recruits would be able to fill their shoes. The crowd was anxious and the players nervous. Fortunately one guy was calm as cucumber; coach Paul Stephens. He had a simple enough game plan for the boys to understand. “We’re gonna play 9 vs. 2! If we play as a team there will be 9 good Söder players out there against Solna’s two good players” A stroke of genius from the new coach, 9 players should beat 2 players. But that wasn’t enough; “I want two guys tagging these players and if we take care of one, they can’t pass to each other” The boys were stunned by the simplicity, 9 players will always beat 0 players.
