Once again Södermalm made the long trek north to Norrtälje to take on the Dockers for the third and last time of the year. Sitting 2-3 before the round, it was vital for the boys in blue to level the win loss record before heading into the summer break. With a couple of late withdrawal’s it left Södermalm with the minimum 9 boys suiting up, which meant it was going to be hard day at the office.
The first quarter started with a bang and the Blues were able to work the ball forward from the first few centre bounces. The forwards then took it from there, with possibly the tallest line up of forwards in SAFF history. Mick “Finally kicking straight” Larrson, Grant “Buckets” Linke and Alex “6 straight” Cherry provided great leads and worked well in combination. This meant Söder quickly piled on goals and everything was working to plan. The second quarter started with more of the same, with Södermalm bagging the first couple before the Dockers were able to get on the board.
Not wanting to let the Dockers back into the game after all the hard work from the first half, the Blues pushed hard at the start of third. Daniel “Wolfman” Wilson was an absolute beast in the Ruck and dominated early in the third and helped get the ball forward. He was assisted in the centre with Brad and Calle winning the ball around the stoppages and continually pumping the ball into the forwards. Half way through the third Brad managed to intercept a kick about 50m out and went back and smashed the ball straight through the sticks to put the lead beyond doubt.
Wary that percentage could play a huge part at the back half of the year, Södermalm really went for the kill in the last. With fresh legs in the middle Tunde “Thunder” and Calle “The tackling machine” were able to win the ball effortlessly and really controlled the play. The boys up forward were all able to capitalize and Söder continued scoring goals at will. In the end the boys in blue were able to sing the song with gusto. The final score Södermalm 21.13 139 defeating Norrtälje 4.3 27.
Have a great summer break everyone and we look forward to the second half of the year! See you all in August!
